General Statement of Duties:

Relief staff cover all aspects of staff duties at Summit House during the absence of regular staff or when extra staff presence is needed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works alongside members to complete all aspects of unit work.
  • Assists with van routes.
  • Assists with social programs.
  • Assists with afternoon programs.
  • Assists with special trips or events.
  • Engages in supportive counseling and problem solving with members.
  • Provides coverage for any other regular staff duties at supervisor’s request.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to empathize, demonstrate respect, communicate warmly and honestly; ability to work effectively with clients, service providers and employers in the community; knowledge or and adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a helping relationship; ability to write concisely and clearly; demonstrate good judgment; ability to work as part of a team. Working knowledge of mental illness. Skills in driving as evidenced by current driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Must meet Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) credentials. Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field preferred.

Work Schedule: This position requires availability of a minimum of one Saturday per month but preferably two to three.

Additional Requirement:

Some relief staff may be requested to completed CPR and First Aid training.
